WHEN SHE WINS, EVERYONE DOES
IT'S HER TERM
Her Term is a Georgia-based initiative created to recruit progressive women to run for public office at the state level. Our name reflects the ownership and responsibility women take when they are elected to lead and serve. It's Her Term - and it's her turn.
We take a data-driven approach to finding qualified and progressive women who we believe can and will win. They come from different backgrounds and roles in their private lives, and have different areas of interest, but they share a commitment to ensuring our government meets the needs, and reflects the will of its constituents.
Our goal is to create a political landscape where progressive women are encouraged, elevated and equipped to run winning campaigns. We want to see more women take on critical elected roles - and to see every branch of our government transformed by equitable representation.
ASK WOMEN TO RUN - AND HELP THEM WIN
Working with local and state partners, community leaders and activists, we find qualified, progressive women already leading in their communities and recruit them to run for office through an in-depth exploration process. We then connect them with the best resources and provide the support they need to launch an effective campaign. Our process puts women leaders in a position to win.
WE NEED MORE WOMEN IN PUBLIC OFFICE
When Her Term started in 2017, Georgia ranked 48th out of 50 states. Since then, we have moved up 9 spots* and increased the number of women running and winning elected office. But we still have a long way to go.
In Georgia, only one office out of the 13 statewide offices is currently held by a woman. No woman has ever been elected to the U.S. Senate or served as Governor of Georgia. Women comprise 34.3% of the state house, which is slightly above average for the U.S., but not good enough for us.
Women leaders are highly effective and provide needed perspective. Electing more will better utilize the best and brightest minds to develop effective policy, foster collaboration across party lines, and improve decisions about laws that impact all of us, every day. When we elevate women to higher office, we elevate our society as a whole to become more just, balanced and democratic.

WHY WOMEN DON'T RUN
Women aren’t asked to run enough, and when they step up they often face pushback and need help navigating the political process. Women don’t see enough role models in leadership positions and studies show they tend to view themselves as unqualified for office compared to the way men view themselves. Her Term ensures women are asked, encouraged and successfully elected.
